Polysomnography - Monroeville, PAThe Polysomnography program at Sanford Brown Institute, Monroeville (SBI) prepares students to perform sleep diagnostics, working in conjunction with physicians to provide comprehensive clinical evaluations that are required for the diagnosis of sleep disorders. Students will examine and demonstrate the use of non-invasive monitoring equipment, including EEG (electroencephalography), EOG (electrooculography), EMG (electromyography), and ECG (electrocardiography); and will study methods used to monitor multiple breathing variables and blood oxygen levels during sleep. Didactic and practical training is provided in medical anatomy and terminology, pathophysiology and nosology of sleep disorders, polysomnographic instrumentation, patient and equipment preparation, monitoring techniques, sleep pharmacology, therapeutic interventions, polysomnographic protocols, and polysomnographic scoring and interpretation.
